Can I avoid having to authenticate with Secure Login Device?

Yes. You can visit Interactive Brokers and under Secure Login Device select "Disable Secure Login For Trading". After this you will not be required to use Secure Login Device for trading. You will still be required to use it for Interactive brokers portal login.
